Diabetes maintenance can be extremely difficult for the patient, there are several different health supplements for diabetes which will help maintain insulin and blood sugar levels, if used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise. Before beginning any new supplement, exercise program or diet- please consult with your physician. It’s a good idea to work with a physician to help maintain your insulin and blood sugar levels, and to help control diabetes in general. Diabetes can be deadly, so if at any point- regardless of whether you are using traditional medicine or alternative remedies- your symptoms worsen, then please contact your physician immediately! New, different, or an increase in symptoms could mean your condition is worsening.

As far as some general herbal health supplements for diabetes, there are several out there that will help control blood sugar, insulin levels, and increase your body’s ability to properly use insulin. Chromium is a wonderful supplement, often used in the form of “chromium picolinate” for weight loss, but when used for supplementing for diabetes, Chromium makes your body’s cells more sensitive to insulin, which will help your body make proper use of insulin. A lot of people with Type 2 Diabetes have a chromium deficiency, which makes the symptoms of diabetes less once Chromium is started in most people.

Evening Primrose Oil is a good herbal remedy for one of the most common complications of diabetes, called “neuropathy.” When a person with diabetes has difficulty converting linoleic acid into GLA, circulation problems result because GLA deficiency causes less oxygen to reach the nerves in a person’s neurosystem. Evening Primrose oil helps with this because Evening Primrose oil is a direct source of GLA. It is for this reason that Evening Primrose Oil is one of the best health supplements for diabetes. It’s suspected that taking Evening Primrose Oil before symptoms of neuropathy caused by diabetes start, will actually help prevent diabetes-related neuropathy.

Other good herbal supplements include aloe vera (the juice or capsules containing aloe powder), antioxidants (commonly found in capsule or pill form, or even in tea form), burdock, biotin, coenzyme Q10, dandelion (found in tea or capsule/caplet form, most common is the tea form), DHEA, fiber, ginseng, l-carnitine, magnesium, onions, vitamins C and E. There are many health supplements for diabetes, and several of the herbal remedies have been known to be very effective. It’s just important to remember, before starting any kind of supplement or medication- whether herbal or traditional- consult with your physician and a naturopath before beginning any new supplements.

Just like traditional medications and treatments, herbal remedies can- and do- interact with one another and also with traditional medications. The best way to control diabetes is with your physician’s guidance, educating yourself, and by making sure you take care of your general over-all health and well-being. A balanced diet, exercise, and education are the best health suppliments for diabetes that there are. Follow the advice of your physician and/or a naturopath to determine which other supplements or herbal remedies are right for you.

Looking at Types of Eating Disorders

There are a great many different types of eating disorders that people suffer from, and it’s not just Anorexia Nervosa that people must be aware of. Whilst perhaps it is one of the most serious eating disorders, Bulimia Nervosa is another eating disorder, which can be just as dangerous. These affect around 5 – 7% of women in the United States.

This doesn’t sound like much, but when you estimate that there are around 143 million women in the USA, this equates to around 8 million sufferers of these types of eating disorder.

Anorexia Nervosa is certainly the more well known of the two types of eating disorders because it is infinitely more noticeable, but they are both as dangerous as each other. Whilst anorexia nervosa involves starvation and the refusal to eat, Bulimia Nervosa is much harder to spot because of the fact that it is an eating disorder involving the sufferer apparently eating food, and then secretly inducing sickness to purge themselves of food.

Today there is much debate about just how these eating disorders emerged. Many people think that it is down entirely to the media. Evidence that almost warrants this claim such as historic fashion trends when the trend wasn’t to be dangerously thin perhaps prove this because during these times eating disorders were far less common.

However, whilst some may argue that an eating disorder is a life choice, for many it is a great deal harder to simply ‘stop’ this physically dangerous behavior. As media coverage continues to focus on unachievable figures, eating disorders are only getting more prevalent throughout society.

It’s not just women suffering from an eating disorder, this problem; men are suffering from the same problems as well. Whilst the estimates for male eating disorder sufferers are nowhere near as many as women, the figure is still approaching one million.

The reality is that eating disorders are both dangerous and highly stressful, both for the sufferer and their family. The shocking truth for many is that once they start along the road to developing an eating disorder, it is very, very hard to stop without some degree of professional help.

The psychiatric community has classified Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa in the DSM IV which means that it is a recognized mental illness. This is only a recent addition and it is welcoming news more for the families of those sufferers and the sufferers themselves as there are now many, many clinics available to help those suffering from an eating disorder.

With cases of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa on the rise, the media needs to change its coverage of society. There is no such thing as a world where everyone is a size 6, so why condition younger generations to believe that smaller is better?

Perhaps the only thing we can do is to make sure that our children see the media for what it is, and that we keep a constant eye on those around us for the signs that they may become affected by this tragic form of addictive behavior.

The Most Common Fears

The most common fears that people have are always related the need to maintain the level of personal security in your life at a comfortable level. When people suffer from serious phobic disorders which prevent them from leaving their home, from going out to work or from enjoying normal social relationships, it is often to be found that their basic feelings of security in life have at some stage not developed properly or have been seriously disrupted. Most people find that they have a sufficient level of personal security in life such that they do not to fear everyday situations. They can communicate with and relate to other people, and deal with most life situations quite comfortably.

However, some of us suffer to some extent from anxiety for what might seem to be odd reasons and at odd times. For some of us it might be difficult to walk up to the top of an observation tower to look at a scenic view – when we stand and look down from a relatively great height, we find that we feel dizzy, as though we are about to fall, and have to look away. We feel insecure standing at a great height and feel a need to get back on the ground. Sudden feelings of claustrophobia are common too. This can range from the classic lift situation, to feeling uncomfortable sitting in a crowded restaurant, or when walking in a busy shopping mall. Feelings of being hemmed in and of needing to escape are common.

Many people have a fear of animals such as dogs, or mice, of spiders or insects. Often this relates to a previous bad experience which a person may have been bitten or attacked by an animal. In some ways it makes sense to avoid in the future something which was a bad event in the past. However, if it means that you cannot visit friends because they have a dog then you may need to get help to overcome a fear of dogs in general just because you had a bad experience with one.

Other people are frightened of storms and particularly of thunder or wind. These fears often date back to some childhood experience when you may have felt very small, alone and frightened of something that seemed very powerful and overwhelming.

Agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces, which could occur if you are on a boat far from the safety of the shore. It could occur in open spaces such as a park or a playing field, but it can occur in any public place. The person suddenly feels very isolated and alone, they feel a need to get back to some known place of safety such a motor vehicle, their home or perhaps just the company of other people.

Feeling nervous about public speaking is a most common fear, probably shared by everyone. Most people will admit to some level of apprehension or anxiety when being introduced to new people, at parties where you don’t know anyone, when starting a new job, or joining a new club. These types of fear are labeled communication fears and usually settle down once you start to know the other people and become familiar with your surroundings. Overcoming the most common fears is usually about becoming familiar with whatever the situation is, and finding the confidence to deal with it.

There are many clubs that you can join which specialize in public and after dinner speaking. At one such club, the President was someone who at his first speech presentation, stood before the group for the prescribed 3 minutes – and couldn’t say a word.
